About D_Inwood

I have listened to SGU on and off since around the 200th episode, and have been attending skeptical events in Vancouver, Canada for about the same amount of time. My favourite events are the Skepticamps that seem to happen about once a year here.

I have done some transcriptions in the past, mostly on the Atheism Plus Scribe project where I transcribed several episodes of Radio Freethinker. I also transcribed the Science Resources for Children video on Skepchick.

I grew up in Ontario and moved to British Columbia about a decade ago. I am currently studying Sociology at SFU in BC. In my spare time I do amateur programming, writing, and reading.

Why I like the Show

This show has proven to be a good source of science news for me, especially on topics that the mainstream media frequently gets wrong, like health products. Their criticisms of the charlatans of the world, and the governments that seem unwilling to regulate them, has been very good over the years; and I believe that holding these people and organizations accountable for scamming millions of people is a good one.

It is also good entertainment, and I can count on a new episode coming out every week, which is something other podcasts really struggle with.

My Priorities

While the subject matter, the cause, and the production value of the SGU are all great, I can't help but notice that the show has a panel made up nearly 100% of white men. Most of their frequent guests (James Randi, George Hrab, Phil Plaitt, ect) are also white men. Because of this, I try to put priority on transcribing episodes with female guests, or guests from minority groups.
